The cabinet decided on Wednesday that the under-secretariat for maritime affairs would be based in Limassol given that most of the shipping companies are located there Transport Minister Marios Demetriades said.

Another reason why the under-secretariat will be based there, he said, is that Limassol is becoming “one of the most important maritime centres of the world”.

The under-secretariat for maritime affairs is expected to be up and running next March, he said.

He added that the cabinet also decided to donate €70,000 to the University of Cyprus to create a school of Marine Sciences, in Larnaca.
